Dart Products Europe (DPE) has been re-awarded the prestigious ISO 50001 certification for its energy management system at its Huntingdon site.
The independent third party certification scheme awarded by Knight International, reviewed Dart’s energy usage at its Cambridgeshire manufacturing plant.
As well as reviewing the way in which energy was used, auditors assessed working practices designed to deliver positive change and the awareness of energy efficiency among the company’s staff. These changes included replacing the lighting with more energy-efficient LED systems and using excess heat generated by machinery to heat the factory.
The ISO 50001 certification enables Dart to build on energy awareness and positive change within the organisation, ultimately to help the company save money, improve processes and reduce carbon emissions.
“As we are in the business of single use products for catering, retail and hospitality, it is very important that we are energy efficient and take great care of all the resources we use, including of course, energy,” commented Anne Sutton, Dart’s VP for the Environment and Innovation. “This isn’t just a question of achieving a standard for us; it goes to the very heart of our organisation. Our customers know this and formal recognition of the ISO 50001 standard gives them confidence that they are working with a responsible and progressive company.
“In practice, this means that we constantly strive to reduce energy consumption and to be energy efficient in all respects - through the sourcing of energy, the use of energy and energy management – across the whole organisation.
“ISO 50001 certification also demonstrates Dart’s commitment to energy management throughout the business and it is a way that we can demonstrate to our customers that we have sound environmental and energy policies in place. We believe that it really adds value to our business at a time when awareness of saving energy and implementing best practise is more important than ever,” she added.
The ISO 50001 certification joins other certification successes secured by Dart, including ISO 14001, ISO 9001 and BRC accreditation.
